About Our Grants

Stepping Up For MS is offering grants up to $800.00 to provide financial assistance to families that need help covering the costs associated with the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Some of the costs may or may not be fully covered by insurance. Grants are limited to a maximum of $800 per person per year and checks are written directly to the service provider. If the cost of the product or service exceeds $800, the grant requester must cover any additional cost. These grants do not include reimbursement of costs already incurred before applying for the grant.


Who can receive a grant?

Anyone diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and living in the metro Detroit area, regardless of income, can apply for a grant.  Applicants need to provide a letter from their physician confirming the diagnosis of MS along with a written estimate from the supplier for the goods or services being requested. Applications can not be reviewed without this information. To assist as many families as possible, we are limiting grants to a maximum of $800.00 per family per year.


What can the grants be used for?

Grants can be used for items or services directly associated with living with Multiple Sclerosis including, but not limited to, ADA compliant home modifications, mobility devices, physical and mental health therapy, chiropractic care, medical supplies or home health care. Grants will not be given out to pay for rent, utilities or for reimbursement of items or services that have already been purchased. 


What information is needed to apply?

Applicants must provide the completed grant application form, a letter from their physician confirming the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis along with a written estimate from the supplier for the goods or services being requested. Applications can not be reviewed without this information.


How does it work?

We will review and notify the applicant within 10 business days of receiving the application package. 
If the application is approved, we will notify you within 10 days by phone to coordinate the payment of the expenses related to the request.  If the applicant does not respond within 30 days, they may need to reapply. 
Please note, completion and submission of an application does not guarantee your request will be approved. All information provided by the applicant is confidential and will not be shared with any 3rd parties. We can not provide grants with incomplete applications and will contact applicant by mail to request the missing information. If information is not received within 30 days, application will be deemed declined and applicant will be sent a notification letter.

If the application is declined, applicant may re-apply for a grant one year from the date of the notification letter.
